Rick Maher

Rick Maher, Founding Director
Rick Maher is semi retired gentleman who worked full time for over 45 years. During that period, he worked in various and exciting careers. And all through that time, Rick has dedicated himself to being a Life Long Learner.
Rick started his first career working in the challenging area of Sales and Marketing. And eventually moved into a career as a Chaplin providing Spiritual Care.
After graduating from College with a Diploma in Applied Arts in Accounting, Rick went to work for a small company supplying packaging materials to the Fishing Industry in Newfoundland. From his first foray into the business world Rick quickly advanced to working for larger and larger companies selling their products in National and International Markets. Rick’s approach to conducting business with his customers was to present an opportunity that would be beneficial to both the buyer and the seller.
When the Fishing Industry started to decline in the mid 1980s, Rick felt drawn to pursue another challenging sales career in the Pharmaceutical Industry. His success calling on Physicians and Pharmacists resulted in securing sales figures that consistently surpassed budgeted target amounts. Due to his continued success, he occasionally received invitations from competing companies to join their staff. And there he continued to apply his efforts which resulted in greater success.
But alas, Rick’s heart strings were being drawn in another direction. In 2002, at the age of 51, Rick walked away from his careers in business and pursued the life of a full-time Student. He entered Queen’s College at Memorial University in St. John’s. In 2005 he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology Degree majoring in Spiritual Care.
In this ‘new’ role Rick continued to learn and draw on his strengths of being personable, putting people at ease and offering help where it was needed. In doing so, he provided Spiritual Care to people struggling with serious Mental Heath issues, as well as Residents living in Longterm Care Centers and those encountering End of Life circumstances. His experiences in that environment were quite humbling.
During the Fall of each year from 2017 to 2024, Rick worked during a seasonal shutdown at the Irving Oil Refinery.
Now, in this present day, Rick along with Linda, have taken on the job of creating a Legacy of Kindness. Kindness is a Virtue that is characterized as the disposition to be considerate, friendly, and concerned for others’ well-being. And it is recognized as a key component of character development and positive relationships.
In this focus around Kindness, Rick hopes many people will join together and work to help weave a Legacy of Kindness through A Tapestry of Kindness Network Inc.
